This position is responsible for managing and implementing a complex industrial hygiene program in a semiconductor manufacturing facility at the site. 10%  STRATEGIC PLANNING

Definition

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week. Monday-Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm.

Location: Position will be based out of the Pasadena, CA office.

Education/License/Certification: Bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental science or public health required. Masters degree in environmental science, engineering or related discipline preferred. CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred.

Qualifications/Experience: Significant (usually 5-7 years) experience or Masters Degree in health and safety management profession required.  Health Care industry experience preferred. Expertise and knowledge of U.S. health and safety legislation including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act), and Department of Health Services. Knowledge of state regulations in areas where Kaiser Permanente has operations preferred. Experience with negotiation rounds with state agencies preferred. Proficient with PC applications. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to travel frequently to different KP regions. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment. 

Duties: Serves as a professional/technical liaison to assigned Kaiser regions. Ensures EHS risks are communicated to regions management along with alternatives for managing/minimizing these risks. Consult s, advises and communicates with specific regions about their EHS program improvement options, accountability models and EHS programs. Conducts risk assessments on physical, chemical and operating parameters using EHS program risk identification designs and plans. Anticipates, recognizes, evaluates, and provides recommendations for controlling health hazards in the workplace.  Recommends corrective action demonstrating sensitivity to time and budget constraints.  Implements national EHS policy, programs and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and minimize EHS risks.  Assists project managers in the design and development of new EHS programs. Leads the design and development of EHS training programs.   Conducts EHS compliance audits across all KP operations. Develops specific audit findings and recommendations to chart improvement path.  Communicates to senior management the compliance status of their programs. Researches, tracks and analyzes the status of new federal and state EHS regulations and communicates to regional management the impact of the proposed regulations on Kaiser Permanente. Designs regulatory data collections processes and establishes data reporting priorities and goals for regional management.

Special Job Features: Position will be based out of the Pasadena, CA office.  Some national travel required.  Travel throughout California requires personal vehicle use.  Occasional overnight travel and/or hours beyond 8-5 pm.  Position requires lifting items between 30-40 pounds, and/or potentially standing for long periods 6-8 hours.

• Represent the Company at governmental agency meetings and hearings and prepare and maintain reports, records, files and correspondence related to internal activity and external regulations that may have an impact on the Company.

• Works in an office with frequent field inspection trips. May be required to respond to emergency calls on a 24-hour a day basis.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree preferably in industrial hygiene, chemistry, engineering, the physical or biological sciences. Requires a minimum of three years industrial hygience experience involving exposure to field construction, chemical and/or industrial operations.

• Requires a broad knowledge of Company operations, work equipment, materials and chemicals.
• Must be able to use a wide variety of instruments to evaluate hazard levels and determine hazard potential for variety of occupations at different locations.
• Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with contractors, compliance officials, and Company personnel.
• Must have a high degree of analytical ability to evaluate test results, field samples, and research data, as well as interpreting State and Federal regulations and laws.
• Must possess critical oral and written communications skills.
• Requires a high degree of judgment in assessing situations and in
